1. The Somalis need to pray so many times during the month of September for Ramadan. The different ethnic groups think it is unfair because they do not get breaks for holidays like Cinco de Mayo and Easter.
2. Yes, because Nebraska doesn't strike many people as a multicultural place, especially in O'Neill, NE.
3. I think they should compromise to some extent, but if the people are not reasonable, let them go.
4. Have little meetings to discuss issues and do what is necessary to collaborate at the plant.
5. Intercultural communication classes could be necessary to work somewhere, and some cultural sensitivity, for say like religion is acceptable.
1. The Swift packing plant has so many ethnic groups that there is conflict between some of them. There are conflicts between religion and language.
2. No. There are around 10 languages being spoke in the Swift plant everyday and many different religions, there had to be conflict sometime.
3. There's not really anything you can do is just try to help work things out. They have translators and they have meetings from 1 to 2 everyday to try to work things out. They should compromise with them, because if they fire them then they have to hire new people and deal with the same thing over and over again.
4. Not be so raciest and compromise with others.
5. Yes, because everyone can have their own religion and their own opinion so people need to learn to work with other people
1. Muslims want time to pray during their holy month for Ramadan. This would not be fair to the other ethnic groups because they do not get time off for their ethnicity or religion.
2. No, because I know that their are lots of immigrants in Nebraska.
3. The should be reasonable to an extent, but if the workers will not cooperate then they should be fired.
4. Learn to accept one another and continue the meeting to see the problem and talk it out.
5. We should all show some sensitivity towards others because America is and always has been a diverse land. And sure communicating is the the only way to get along, so plenty of that. We're all people so lets treat each other like it.
1. The main intercultural conflict was that many of the Muslims believed they should get work time off during Ramadan. Many of the different ethnic groups believe this is unfair because they don't get breaks for all of the Christian holidays.
2. It actually did surprise me because I didn't realize Grand Island had become that diverse, I thought this mainly only happened in larger cities.
3. JBS Swift should negotiate and compromise with all of their employees about their holiday breaks. They have already set up some groups to help this situation. They should compromise with the workers, but if they don't cooperate, fire them.
4. The workers can forget their cultural differences at work and just practice them at home to try to make the environment improve at work.
5. I believe that the immigrants coming to our country need to learn more of the American cultures and languages because we shouldn't have to adapt to them just because they come to our country. I do believe religion differences are acceptable though.
